The first step of any skin care routine is cleansing. Clean Routine ($32, 5 oz.) is a traditional foaming cleaner with a silky texture. However, it does not contain any detergents like standard cleansers. You only need a small amount about the size of a nickel to wash your face. I noticed when washing makeup off, Clean Routine left residue, which required additional cleansing, but it didn’t strip your face.

The second step was treatment. I used two products out of sequence of what was recommended based off my skin care needs. After shaving in the morning, I used Calm After the Storm ($94, 1oz). While the product is best used for post esthetic treatments like chemical peels or laser, it instantly soothes any irritation, firmed and tightened skin and killed any acne causing bacteria.  At night, I used the A Team ($105, 1oz) for my anti-aging treatment. This powerful product contains .3% retinol to improve skin tone and fight fine lines and wrinkles. Due to the concentration of retinol, it should be used sparingly as it can cause a tingling or warming sensation on the skin.

The final step is the regime is hydration. Safety Blanket ($60, 1.70z) is formulated for sensitive skin. It is a light weight moisturizer that quickly absorbs into skin without feeling greasy and maintaining hydration all day.

mybody is a comprehensive, somewhat complicated line. I say “complicated” loosely as it takes some getting used to remembering which product into which step at what particular time of day. The greatest area of difference I noticed was with the anti-aging products. After a couple of weeks, I saw changes in the appearance of fine lines and overall skin tone to be brighter. There are some incredible before and after photos on their site to show the efficacy of continued use of mybody. If you can commit to a skin care regime using products from one dedicated line, then mybody will be a perfect addition for you.

Qualities you most admire in design:  When functionality and comfort are kept in mind along with the beauty of the garments.

Qualities you least admire in design:  Design for the sake of design, without thought of how the wearer will feel in the garments, their comfort and modesty.

What item can’t you travel without?   My iPod.  Besides the fact that it can keep me busy during long flights or train rides, the music that I listen to becomes part of a life/journey playlist.  Later on in life the music I listened to on a particular journey brings back the memories I made in those places.

Whose diary would you like to read?  Salvatore Ferragamo.

What trend would you like to see disappear?  Super low-rise jeans/pants.

What is your current obsession or addiction?  I just watched a movie set in Brazil where this present day woman dresses like a1930’s glamorous beach beauty meets 1970s prints & colors.  She wears these elegant turbans and turban style “headband” type wraps that I just can’t stop thinking about.

If you could wake up tomorrow anywhere, where would you go?  The Amalfi Coast.

What is your most treasured possession?   A camel colored backless wool sweater with a huge tube collar that I purchased from the design studio of Italian brand Patafisic.  100% made in Italy out of super warm wool/alpaca blend yarns.  My visit to that design studio is what sparked my interest in Italian knitwear.

it takes a lot for me to like a backpack, much less write about one. I stopped a gentleman on the street the other day when I spotted his bag. I had to touch the soft, dove grey wool. he directed me to sketchbook, which also happens to be locally made: grommets + waxed canvas + leather + wool + rubber + chambray.

this backpack just might kick the michael kors bag I have been eyeing to the bottom of the list. decisions, decisions!

underneath the pile of fashion magazines in my sitting room is a metal book. the twenty year old book that brought prudish american sensibilities to its knees and out of the bedroom: sex by madonna. a stunning pictorial essay shot by steven klein in black + white including an all-star cast from naomi campbell to vanilla ice. i bought this book when it published in limited edition for $49.95 & you had to carry it out of the store wrapped & concealed in an opaque bag. how far we have come…

a globe-trotting memoir filled with eccentric characters? oui, s’il vous plait!

ever since cartier re-released its clou collection, I have been beside myself. do I want the bracelet or the ring? Either one has a four digit price tag, and candidly I have upcoming travel I need to take into account. as stunning & fabulous it would be to make my first cartier purchase, I came across something more parsimonious with the same sharp effect. the fire ring by d+q. drawn + quartered is an australian jewelry line with an industrial, hard edge approach. $349 is just more proper (at least for now).

i am wild about anything monogram & with the letter A (the best letter of the alphabet, if you ask me). the A range is a new line of adaptable furniture by british design company ByAlex. the birch plywood pieces consist of 2 interlocking A shapes; sturdy + affordable.

the bcbg arlenis dress is THE s/s12 dress to own, to work, to stride and to glide. the all over scarf print has a sensual open back, but that isn’t the best part. the center panel of the dress is only attached at the halter neckline & separated from the rest of the dress for fluid, draping realness.

One of the most ingenious and underrated design houses in pdx, shwood eyewear, has partnered with photographer julian bialowas.

they bring us an interactive photo project based on a travel diary documenting with photo + video various locales all within 90mns of pdx proper.

the launch party will take place on 3 may @ the ace hotel @ 7pm.

whenever spring comes around, my favorite shot of color is pink. I like it in various flavors of fuchsia, metallic, or neon; the richer the coloring, the better. for  conservative looks, I pair it with monochromatic black or I just go for broke and mix with other pop colors. you have to live out loud sometimes.

the showroom for ofimodul is like a dream come true. perfection. when can i move in?

here is a description of the building from the savvy studio website:

Showroom and design center to Ofimodul, a Monterrey company design and manufacture of furniture, which should incorporate a space to showcase their products and a workspace that integrates to the factory. The finishes of the building are as simple as possible, and materials are consistent with the capacity building and the industrial tradition of this city in northern Mexico: concrete, steel and glass. The building consists of two parts separated by a different level of soil and a core of basic services. An outdoor patio overlooks the farm and the other is integrated into the factory. The inner half is closed and more opaque, while the outer half is open and substantially transparent, and has the function of a large cupboard. Concrete was used for the main building structure, finish apparent in walls and slabs and polished for interior floors. Steel is used for coatings, blacksmith bearing screens, details such as doors, railings and stairs, and the structural element in a column. Following the logic of its function, glass was used to generate the identity of the building transparent.

Chambers was the title of the group show featuring a menswear vignette titled The Woodlands, newcomer Pino, and Barbara Seipp for Isaac Hers all to benefit Planned Parenthood. The event took place at a characteristic Portland industrial space with exposed brick, wood beams and concrete floors with my one of my favorite styles of runway: no runway with a plain white backdrop. The show opened with a retail presentation comprised of various labels called The Woodlands. The looks were a wide-ranging mix of backpacker to varsity boy complete with letterman jacket to colorful hues in gingham and madras print. Following The Woodlands was the debut collection of Pino by Crispin Argento of Moonwoods Eyewear. His Happy Days collection was precisely that: happy. Pino is a men’s furnishing line of richly hued pocket squares and rounds, cravats, and bow ties… think Farnsworth Bentley as the modern dandy. Argento stole the show with a message on placards “boys, it’s time to become gentlemen” – a calling for men to really start dressing, open doors for others and have a stiff drink while discussing where you will be summering this year. The final designer was Barbara Seipp for Isaac Hers showing both spring and fall collections. I’ve never been particularly fond of a designer showing multiple seasons in one show as you risk losing a collection’s consistency, theme, and message. For S/S12, Seipp featured casual separates, dresses with flattering silhouettes and loads of dark skinny jeans. A plume of smoke and a model carrying a lantern transitioned the audience into her A/W12 collection. The pieces sounded more like a prescription for depression with names like Xanax, Valium, Shock Treatment, and Sedate Me. Consistent with fall 2012 trends, the palette was almost entirely black, glittery metallic as seen in Seipp’s Thorazine leggings, military inspiration in her Mommy Dearest dress, and enough maxi skirts to go around the world twice.

The show ended with a silent auction and an after party with drinks, dancing and more drinks made with wedding cake flavored vodka.  Even if the sun kept some people outside, the diehard supporters of fashion, as always, presented a united front for a worthwhile cause and a parade of beautiful clothes.

last week, I noted that with the arrival of spring along came an interest in redecorating my apartment. I found a weighty book called decorate: 1,000 design ideas for every room in your home by holly becker who is behind the blog decor8. the pictures stunning, crispy clear and every idea is easy to execute with an infinite number of tips on each page. It’s a good thing there are a thousand and one nights for a thousand ideas.

it wants to be spring in pdx badly. we’ve had mere hours worth of blue sky & sun since the end of last week. i thought i could help by putting on my best impression of the sky. i grabbed my white helmut lang jeans + my tory burch printed tunic + arm fulls of bracelets.

What are you favorite materials to work with?  At the moment, we like to work with fine jersey cotton, heavy soft Jersey made of cotton and woven fabrics made from cotton or wool. We also we like to work with silk and cashmere.

i changed things up this week by featuring more interior design elements. spring is a time of renewal and i am all in favor of getting rid of everything & starting anew. portland undoubtedly caters to those interior design bursts of inspiration; it is one of the more unspoken features of our city. on the corner of nw 10^th & nw flanders, i spotted a set of lemon yellow metal chairs in front of nuvrei; just below a window at hammer & hand featuring a lime green rotary telephone.

the past couple of weeks,  i have been on an unexpected interior design high. this bedroom is flawlessness.
